While chin augmentation recovery can vary depending on the type of procedure and the individual patient, here’s an overview of what most patients can expect.
Chin Augmentation Recovery Based on Procedure Type
Depending on your condition and aesthetic goals, your doctor will recommend one of the following chin augmentation procedures.
Chin augmentation with dermal fillers
Performed by injecting a small amount of filler into the chin or jawline, the procedure is the least invasive form of chin augmentation, generally causing little to no side effects.
While some patients may notice some minor redness, swelling or discomfort, it usually resolves in a day or two.
Chin implant
Chin implants are performed by making a small incision below the chin or inside the mouth and carefully placing a synthetic implant underneath the skin.
Immediately following the procedure, you can expect to experience some mild discomfort, swelling and skin discoloration which may last for around one week. Patients can generally return to normal activities after seven days.
Chin bone advancement
Bone advancement (or sliding genioplasty) involves making an incision inside the mouth and surgically correcting the chin bone to achieve the desired shape and prominence.
The immediate recovery following bone advancement is similar to that of a chin implant, however some patients may be required to stay in hospital overnight for observation. Patients generally feel normal around one week following the procedure, but because the bone is operated on, a complete recovery can take 6 to 8 weeks.
